Go Metro Weekends, Feb 16 – 17

This weekend, head to Chinatown and enjoy the Chinese New Year Festival. There will be food, performances and the chance to score a free gift. The Chinese New Year Festival will take place from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 16 and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 17 at Central PlazaThe Golden Dragon Parade starts at 1 p.m. on Saturday. All events are free to the public. (Metro Gold Line to Chinatown Station)

If you’d like to support local high school engineers and also take a gander around Union Station’s old ticketing area, Saturday’s your chance. The ASCE Annual Popsicle Stick Bridge Contest will be held there from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is open to the public for viewing. Go and reminisce about the fun days of high school physics! (Metro Red, Purple or Gold Line to Union Station)

The Harlem Globetrotters will be playing at Staples Center on Sunday at 1 p.m. Go Metro and get $5 off on tickets, just show your TAP card at the box office or use the code METRO when purchasing online. (Metro Blue or Expo Line to Pico Station, Metro Bus 81 to Figueroa/12th)

  1. Don’t take the Expo line from Culver City unless you like a 2 hour public transit adventure this weekend. We went to chinatown and the 3 train 3 bus trip sucks. And there is no announcement on Metro’s own website.
