Due to Metro ExpressLanes construction, the El Monte Busway will be closed from Alameda St to El Monte Station from 10 p.m. Friday, Nov.2, through 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5.
All buses will use the general purpose lanes on the I-10 Fwy during this time. All buses at the LAC-USC Medical Center and Cal State LA stations will board at street level locations. Metro will augment service with additional buses in order to minimize passenger delays and inconvenience. For more information, go to the “construction notices” tab at metro.net/expresslanes.

Construction notice: Attention commuters, residents, and businesses in the vicinity of the San Bernardino Freeway (I-10) between Alameda St. and I-605 Freeway
The Metro ExpressLanes Demonstration Project along the San Bernardino Freeway (I-10) will lessen congestion, improve travel choices, and maximize efficiency on a heavily traveled west-east corridor connecting downtown Los Angeles to I-605 Freeway. The project will provide a new way to move traffic in LA County by converting the existing carpool lanes on I-10 to ExpressLanes. Anticipated project completion is early 2013. As part of the continuing construction, the Contractor will install freeway signage, toll gantries, toll equipment, cutting loops and fiber line connections for the toll technology and infrastructure.
What: Rehabilitation of freeway lane shoulders. Work will include removal of the existing pavement, placement of Lane Concrete Base and Portland Concrete Cement Pavement.
When: Work will begin as early as 10 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2, weather permitting. Construction work will continue through 5 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 5. The contractor will conduct day and nighttime activities that will impede use of the bus stations along the San Bernardino Freeway (I-10).
Where: Eastbound and westbound San Bernardino Freeway (I-10) HOV Lane and the general purpose lane (No. 1) between Alameda St. in Los Angeles to I-605 Freeway in El Monte
What to expect:
- HOV lanes along the San Bernardino Freeway (I-10) heading eastbound and westbound will be closed between 10 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2, through 5 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 5.
- Temporary K-rail installation at multiple locations under the existing lane closure in the west and east bound directions of the San Bernardino Freeway (I-10.)
- Intermittent construction equipment entering and exiting freeway.
- Intermittent traffic lane and HOV lane closures on the I-10 and I-605 freeway.
- Access will be maintained for the Fire Department and emergency responders at all times.
Bus service:
Express buses (Silver Line and 487) will use the I-10 general purpose lanes, stopping at LAC+USC Medical Center and Cal State LA Stations on street level.
El Monte Busway/Alameda (Union Station):
Board eastbound Silver Line and 487 buses at Alameda St./Arcadia St.(on 101 Freeway Bridge).
For LAC+USC Medical Center or Cal State LA stations, service on Lines 70 and 71 may also be used on Cesar Chavez Av/Alameda St. Metrolink stops at Cal State LA only.
There is no change in boarding location for westbound buses.
LAC+USC Medical Center Station:
No Express buses will serve this station when Busway is closed.
For service to El Monte or downtown Los Angeles, board Silver Line and 487 in front of walkway to Busway Station on Pomeroy St. Also, for Cal State LA Station, service on Lines 70 and 71 may be used on Marengo Street.
Cal State LA Station:
No Express buses will serve this station when Busway is closed.
For service to El Monte or Downtown LA, board buses at street level bus terminal located on Circle Dr. Also, for LAC+USC Medical Center, service on Line 71 may be used at street bus terminal or Line 70 at Ramona Bl and Campus Rd (other side of Freeway).
