The art of transit

Nice photo of a slice of the record crowds that used public transit in London during the recent Olympic Games. And here’s our recent post about how an expanded transit system could serve a future Olympics in the Los Angeles region.

To submit a photo for the Art of Transit, post it to Metro’s Flickr group, email it to sourcemetro@gmail.com or Tweet it to @metrolosangeles with an #artoftransit hashtag. Many of the photos we’ve featured can be seen in these galleries on Flickr.

  1. Two observations:

    1) If it weren’t for the Underground sign, that minimalist subway entrance would be virtually invisible. The sign clearly provides all of the visibility that the Tube needs in this obviously crowded, urban scene.

    2) The “public subway” mentioned on the sign is NOT the Underground subway system, but the underground pedestrian tunnel which the subway station links to. In many Metro systems, these valuable tunnels provide extra entrances and exits, but also safe passage for crossing streets.
