The art of transit

photo by William Andrews, via submission

William emailed this photo over a few weeks ago — as a summer solstice photo — but I thought it would be nice to run on what promises to be a stinking hot day here in So Cal. The photo was taken in 2002 on on the Bognes-Lødingen Ferry in Norway, which is north of the Arctic Circle. The village of Lødingen is visible in the background. Very nice all-around photo.

To submit a photo for the Art of Transit, post it to Metro’s Flickr group, email it to sourcemetro@gmail.com or Tweet it to @metrolosangeles with an #artoftransit hashtag. Many of the photos we’ve featured can be seen in these galleries on Flickr.

  1. Norway publishes a national timetable for all transportation routes in the country including ferries.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rutebok_for_Norge

This allows the information to be presented one format with one set of notations to facilitate trip planning.

As an example here is the schedule for the Bognes-Lødingen Ferry:

Of course local agencies/providers/operators can and do still publish their own material. But this acts like an Official Airline Guide (or Official Rail Guide for those old enough to recall that) for the country. Would be nice to see something like this for California, Southern California, the SCAG counties or even just Los Angeles County without being dependent on Google Transit.
