Most downtowners in Los Angeles know that the second Thursday of every month means Artwalk. For those who just can’t get enough of the art – and let’s be honest, good food and drink – there is now another option available before the next Artwalk rolls around: Culver City Third Wednesdays.
Culver City Station opens June 20, just in time for this month’s Third Wednesday. “Summer Solstice” happy hour festivities are from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Easily accessible from Expo Line’s Culver City Station, Third Wednesdays is a neighborhood-wide happy hour combined with live entertainment. The main area of interest is the triangle of shops and restaurants that starts where Venice Blvd. meets Culver Blvd. one block west of the station. Most of the galleries, including Fresh Paint Art, Gallery 9, WWA and Royal/T, stay open later to allow you to appreciate art after dining, and many restaurants offer special happy hour deals, drinks and dishes. Many local businesses may also offer free samples and prize giveaways, so don’t be shy about popping into random shops and looking around.
If you’re in the mood for a show, stroll over to the Kirk Douglas Theatre on Washington Boulevard and see what’s playing. You should probably get tickets in advance. The theatre is offering theatre tours, ticket giveaways and free refreshments for the “Summer Solstice” Third Wednesday.
So, lovers of Artwalk – and Westsiders, feel free to take Expo to get downtown Los Angeles for that – it’s time to start planning ahead. Between second Thursdays and Third Wednesdays (and every Friday!), you’re going to be busy.
