Reminder: downtown Los Angeles bus detours in effect due to May Day protests

As we posted yesterday, please expect bus detours this afternoon in downtown Los Angeles due to May Day protests. As usual, it’s a bit of a fluid situation as it’s hard to predict how many protestors there will be.

As of 12:30 p.m., 10 bus lines were on detour and Broadway was closed between 11th Street and Olympic. The lines detoured: 2, 4, 28, 30, 40, 45, 728, 733, 740 and 745.

The best way to get up-to-date information is to check the service alerts on the metro.net homepage or to subscribe to Metro’s service alert Twitter feed. Service alerts can also be received by text message on your phone — here’s how to sign up.

  1. It would have been great if some operators along the detour route would have actually stopped for passengers and not decided to drive in the far left lanes along Flower St just bypassing stops all together. It was hard enough for patrons to find their buses, but to be passed up on top of it was aggravating. One of the biggest culprits was line 728 going by completely empty because they were not stopping for anyone. Then there was the guy on line 60, bus 5414 that created his own detour, that only had 2 people on his bus and was well south of the designated detour route. Does MTA hire drivers to service thed public or are they hired to just fill a seat to meet a quota and allowed to do whatever they want in situations like on May 1st???

    • Hi Douglas:

Here is the detour info for the Silver Line/910 — according to info below from Metro the bus will be stopping Flower and 3rd:

      Silver Line (910)

Northbound: Regular route to Figueroa St and 7th St., continue Figueroa St to (R) Cesar Chavez Ave., (R) Alameda St., (L) Busway entrance and regular route

Southbound: Regular route to Busway and Alameda St., (R) Alameda St., (L) Cesar Chavez Ave., (L) Grand Ave., (R) 1st St., (L) Hope St. – Flower St., to 5th St. and regular route.

    • Douglas and everyone else:

Just to reiterate from earlier service alert: if possible use Metro Rail in downtown to avoid the detours. You can use the train to connect to most buses.
