These ‘before’ photos do not capture one of L.A.’s most beautiful locations. Still, it is good to record for posterity what was here before a major new piece of Metro’s expanding rail network comes on board. In just a few years, this empty right of way at Centinela Avenue near W. Olympic Blvd in West L.A. will be home to the Expo Line to Santa Monica. The Expo Line will restore passenger rail service to Santa Monica for the first time in more than 50 years.

i can’t wait til it is restored
I’m excited! HOWEVER, the way things go in this city, we need to add a few more years to the open date. Expo Line Phase 1 originally was set to open in 2010… still waiting!
You’re welcome, Steve, and feel free to use them.
There are some other good progress photos since last November 30 by me and others at

For a “before” photo tour of Phase 2 from Santa Monica to Palms in 2011 see http://friends4expo.org/phase2before.htm .
Hi Darrell;
Thanks much for posting the link!! You mind if we feature some of those photos on The Source this coming week? It’s exciting to see so much work on the alignment finally!

Forget 2, When is Expo 1 going to open?
This is truly exciting!!
I can only imagine the popularity of the rail line
that will run parallel to one of the most congestion freeways in the nation (i.e. the i-10).
I hope the Expo line extension will open in 2015, as planned
That is great news since it is within walking distance to home. Finally!
