That “shack” is a passenger shelter; a predecessor to the glass and aluminum shelters that exist now. There would have been bench seats inside and was open to the tracks. (Nice photo)
Is that the PE Station on Venice Blvd that is now the Ivy Substation theater?

Good question. I’m not sure of the answer but I don’t believe it’s the same structure — although it could be in the same area. The substation is a substantial building — this looks like a shack!
