New Green Line to LAX video

Check out this new webisode from the Green Line to LAX project team entitled Making Your Connection.

The video release coincides with workshops that have been held this week to introduce the community to the project. There’s one more workshop in Culver City next Tuesday, so if this video excites you about the project be sure to attend.

Tis are great news.We have also to remember the lack of parking spaces at Norwalk and Lakewood stations, specially the Norwalk I-605 station is full by 7.15 Am thousands of cars are going back into the freewway everyday just from this station alone,avid and loyal metro costumers are parking 3 or 4 blocks away from the station and on the nearby Costco store parking and the this situation is not new has been like this at list for the past 7 years and is rending the green line almost obsolete.

  2. Juan……you can never build enough parking for every person. People will eventually have to think of alternative means of transportation (i.e. buses or bikes). Actually, quite the opposite of the Green Line being ‘obsolete’…it’s above 40K daily ridership, which is a record high. So when parking was more available back in the ’90s, and ridership around 25K, that was more obsolete than today with full lots and over 40K daily ridership. People are making more use of Metro rail!

    It’s not the parking that brings ridership, it’s the destinations. Otherwise, Metrolink would be far beyond the #1 transit system as the amount of parking spaces are unparallel to anything else.

  3. Seeing as neither the Green Line nor the planned Crenshaw line will provide a one seat ride from Downtown LA to LAX i don’t see the need to have a direct Metro Rail connection to the airport.

    Instead Metro should focus on making the planned Aviation/Century a massive transit Hub like Union station with connections to the
    Green Line
    Crenshaw Line
    Future Santa Monica/405 Line
    Future Metrolink on the Harbor Subdivision for Downtown LA riders

    and The LAX People Mover to bring Metro Rail and Metrolink Passengers from the Aviation/Century Station to the Airport Terminals.

    LA is so spread out that our airport connection should be built to facilitate connections from various parts of the region.

  4. The MTA and SCAG should put pressure on the City of Norwalk to extend the Green Line to the Metrolink station. Between the missing link to LAX and linking the line to Metrolink’s Norwalk station this line hasn’t seen its full potential.

  5. This can work well if it’s done like SFO. I believe Mospeada, is suggesting a LAX HUB which is probably want they will need to do.

    Actually, a good and smart transport hub could help that area. Has a few nice hotels (and some great rates), yet no place to go to if you don’t rent a car. It is not the safest area either. This is a great opportunity to spur some private development.

  6. I have a solution to solve the green line’s problems. For the most part the green line terminates from areas with low ridership. If you look at the other lines, they all terminate or pass through areas with large numbers of population. From my experience with the the Green Line, most of the ridership comes between Crenshaw Station and Imperial/Wilmington. What I am proposing is an extension of the Green Line east to Anaheim or Disneyland. Their is a R.O.W. approximately 1.7 miles east that extends southeast into the city of Anaheim and serves other cities such as Buena Park and ect. Green Line Should run a east-west alignment from LAX – Anaheim/Disneyland. It will serve as passageway for people who in the OC and Eastern LA county to travel and get to the LAX without using cars.

    1)Getting OCTA on board.(For OC portion of the Line
    2)A 1.7 mile tunnel or trench may be need to connect current Green Line tracks.
    3) Purchase of R.O.W. owned I believe by Union Pacific.
    4) Funding
    5) The rest would be up to Metro and the City

  7. It is not car vs. train. It is car to train. Walk to train. Bike to train. Bus to train. To purposefully limit parking options at a transit station will only ensure that a certain segment of the population remains behind the wheel of their car for their entire journey. Everyone values their time differently. For some, a transfer to a lengthy bus ride at the end of a substantial train ride becomes an unwelcome exercise in transit martyrdom, while a park and ride connection could have been quite doable. Los Angeles is the antithesis of a compact city. Each of its rail transit stations should be considered as more than a stop, but rather as a mini-hub that facilitates every multi-modal connection, including pedestrians, bikes, scooters, buses and automobiles.

  8. Good to see this! Another example of how LA transit is finally starting to take shape. And when the crenshaw line gets extended north to Hollywood in the future, ridership will absolutely skyrocket.

    Agreed on the norwalk station needing to connect to metrolink, its odd that it was never implemented to begin with when the green line was built.

    @LAofAnaheim well its even more than just destinations, its also the frequency of service, which is something metrolink lacks severely.

    I like the idea of a transit hub at LAX, although SFO kind of screwed it up with the milbrae inter modal hub because it requires paying for a rather expensive BART ticket just to go one stop to connect to Milbrae for Caltrain. While I like that BART goes directly to the airport (intl. terminal that is) I think the SFO people mover should have connected directly to milbrae station to facilitate a much easier connection to Caltrain and vice versa from Caltrain to any terminal.

  9. Waste of money due to the disjointed Metro Rail Network.

    Want to get to the airport from most parts of downtown? Have fun schlepping your bag to/from the red line, up the stairs to the blue line (which is sloooow), then up more stairs to the green line with your two transfers……or just take a one seat bus ride.

    The existing connection is almost exactly like the well-used AirBART at OAK (except AirBART isn’t free). So why don’t more people connect to the green line today? The problem isn’t that bus connection, it’s the goofy Metro Rail network that it connects to.

    The idea or rail to the airport “sounds” great, but in LA it won’t be great at all or well used, and will be very expensive.

  10. This would be a great idea because as it states in the video, getting to the airport is a nightmare, and if that part of the stress from travel can be alleviated then Metro along with the city of Los Angeles will be commended.

  11. A Van Nuys Blvd-405 Corridor Subway from the Valley, to the Westside, to LAX, to the South Bay to Long Beach- that is the real answer!

  12. I agree that LAX needs to become a major transit hub that brings in neighborhood (people mover, buses) local (buses, trains), regional (Metrolink), inter-state (CAHSR), long-distance (domestic US via air travel), and international (international flights via air travel) all in a single area.

    LAX is too overcrowded; we need to move some of those regional jet flights to Fresno and San Diego to high speed rail. But we need a direct LAX HSR station so people can make their connecting flights to onward destinations.

    No one is going to do San Diego to LA Union Station, take a Flyway bus to LAX and try to catch their flight to Tokyo or Paris. We need to do true air-to-rail transit as they have in Paris and Frankfurt.
