The 4th Annual Steel Wheels conference will roll into town on Saturday, March 19. The day-long conference, to be held at Metro HQ, is presented by the Rail Passenger Association of California (RailPAC) and the National Association of Railroad Passengers (NARP), two advocacy groups with a passion for passenger rail service.

With presentations from major players in transportation, including Metrolink CEO John Fenton, Amtrak GM William Duggan and High Speed Rail Authority project manager Hans Van Winkle, and a welcome from SCRRA Chairman Richard Katz, the conference offers direct access to the agencies that provide service and the advocacy groups that support improved rail service in the nation.

Topics include high-speed rail, improvements to the 222-mile Los Angeles to San Luis Obispo (LOSSAN North) rail corridor, proposals for a luxury train to Las Vegas and Amtrak’s long distance trains. The program, which promises a platform exhibit at Union Station, is attached here.

Registration is advised but everyone is welcome to attend, says Rail PAC president Paul Dyson. There is a fee, which includes lunch. Information: www.railpac.org/steelwheels
