Bob Hope shuttle continues … and it’s free (!)

Those of us in the San Fernando Valley know the ease of hopping a bus to laid-back Bob Hope Airport and eliminating the parking expense from our total travel bill. (At $9 a day for even cheaper long-term, that car stay can add up faster than a Southwest ticket to Vegas.) Now anyone with access to the Metro Red Line — anyone with access to any Metro Rail line or bus — can do the same by hopping the free (!) shuttle from North Hollywood Station to the airport.

The program has been in test mode for the past couple of months but as of today, it has been “extended indefinitely,” says airport spokesperson Lucy Burghdorf.

The point is to encourage L.A. travelers to leave their cars at home and also to reach out to out-of-towners who might be headed for Universal, Hollywood, downtown L.A.,  Long Beach or any place Metro can take you. The shuttle rides are offered under an agreement between the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority and SuperShuttle.

The airport authority also is offering free shuttles between the Airport and the downtown Burbank Metrolink station — all the better to catch savvy travelers coming in via the Santa Clarita line.

To arrange a pick up contact SuperShuttle at the shuttle island in front of the terminal for on-demand service from the airport; call 818-558-3179 for pickup at both stations to reach the Airport; or call 1-800-224-7767 to make advance reservations. Be prepared for a 30-minute wait, although it may not take that long.

Did we mention it’s free? More details here.
