The art of transit

I know there was thunder and lightning south of the San Gabriel Mountains last evening. But it was nothing compared to the lightning display in the Mojave Desert along U.S. 395 and California 14 last night — a show I got to see while returning from a long weekend in Mammoth Lakes. Riding shotgun, and holding my finger down on the shutter release of my Nikon D5000, I captured the above shot north of Lancaster along the 14.

The Eastern Sierra, btw, got another nice dusting of snow over the weekend but the fall colors are still excellent, at least for a few more days.
