Red Line adjacent Trader Joe’s opens in Hollywood this Friday

Curbed LA and LAist are reporting that the new Trader Joe’s at Hollywood & Vine is set to open on Friday, May 21st.

A major retail component of the recently completed Hollywood & Vine Transit Oriented Development, Trader Joe’s is located on the ground floor of the the 1600 Vine Apartments – on the same block as the Metro Red Line Hollywood/Vine Station.

This isn’t the first Trader Joe’s to be adjacent to Metro Rail – the original Trader Joe’s is actually about a six minute walk from the Gold Line Mission Station in South Pasadena and there’s another just a short walk from the Gold Line Filmore Station. But the new Hollywood & Vine store is definitely the closest to a Metro Rail station (a two minute walk max) and while the Pasadena stores are located in quiet suburban hoods that don’t neccessarily scream transit oriented, the new store is located in the heart of urban Hollywood.

I imagine transit riders and city slickers will feel right at home.

To this who live along the Red Line who’ve been dying for an easy, car-free way to get to Trader Joe’s, Friday is the day. The store is a 10 minute ride from the North Hollywood Red Line Station and a 19 minute ride from Union Station (it takes 22 minutes to get to the South Pasadena TJ’s from Union Station).

This Downtown dweller is excited to be a short train ride away from a Trader Joe’s – but I hope the company opens its next transit oriented store in Downtown!
