A bill that would create weapons-free zones near mass transit was promoted at a news conference today by Assembly Speaker John A. Perez, Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca and Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority Board of Directors Chairman Ara Najarian, who is also the mayor of Glendale.
The bill, AB 2324, also has other provisions that Perez says would tighten security around mass transit and also make it easier to crack down on those who evade fares. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority Board of Directors has yet to take an official position on the legislation.
The press release from Assembly Speaker Perez’ office is posted after the jump.
