Marathon bus detours

The Los Angeles Marathon has a new route again this year — this time running from Dodger Stadium to Santa Monica via downtown L.A., Hollywood and Beverly Hills. It’s a nice course. Previous versions of the race seemed to go out of their way to feature the ghastly nature of some of the region’s commercial boulevards.

With the race cutting a big swath across town, many Metro bus routes face detours throughout the day Sunday. Click here for a full list on Metro’s website.

Those who want to view the race may want to consider traveling to downtown Los Angeles or Hollywood on Metro Rail. Parking is expected to be very tight in Santa Monica. If you want to watch the finish of the race, here’s my advice: ride your bike to Santa Monica or park somewhere along the coast well south of Santa Monica and ride there on the Marvin Braude bikeway.

Race organizers and the city of Santa Monica are offering free bike valet parking. Details are after the jump.
