Another reprieve for area motorists: work on the northbound 405 carpool lane project will not begin tonight. The contractor for the project has decided to wait until Thursday night to begin work.
Instead of working on the segment of the freeway from the Santa Monica Freeway to National Boulevard, work tomorrow will be on the stretch between the Santa Monica Freeway and Santa Monica Boulevard.

The work is being done to add a carpool lane on the northbound 405 between the Santa Monica Freeway and the Ventura Freeway over the Sepulveda Pass. The project is expected to be complete in 2013. Here’s a link to the project page on Metro’s website.
There’s also a story on County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky’s website about Michael Barbour, Metro’s project manager for the 405 carpool effort.
