Pedestrian fatal on Blue Line

A man in his mid-60s was struck and killed by a Blue Line light rail train on Sunday morning, according to Metro officials and the L.A. Times. The accident happened about 10 a.m. as the southbound train approached the Vernon station in South Los Angeles.

Metro officials said that the man was struck by the train where Vernon crosses the tracks at street level. Officials said that crossing gates at Vernon were down and that the train was slowing as it approached the station. It was the 98th death associated with the Blue Line since it opened in 1990.
