A mine shaft constructed as part of the new subway project in Barcelona.
A new subway line running under Barcelona — and connecting to the city’s airport — opened its first five stations earlier this month. With the subway extension being planned on the Westside, I thought you may enjoy playing around with the three links below to powerpoint presentations about the new line.
They’re in Spanish, but much of the material is self-explanatory (if not, use Google Translate). There’s also a chart that shows the progression of tunneling. In 2008 over five miles of tunnel were dug. The entire line will be 30 miles long when finished, with the majority underground.

I also encourage you to check out the Transports Metrpolitans de Barcelona mobile website, which easily loaded onto my iPhone and is smartly designed and easy to use.
