Bus service changes announced

Metro has announced significant service changes involving a dozen different routes — including some new routes and some that are being truncated or eliminated. The changes go into effect Sunday, Dec. 13.

The full list is after the jump. There are also minor adjustments being made to several dozen other routes. Those changes will be reflected on new timetables that will be posted soon to the Metro website — Metro officials say that most of the changes involve buses arriving a few minutes earlier or later than their current schedules.

The most significant change is the addition of new Metro Silver Line service between El Monte and the Artesia Transit Center via the El Monte Busway and Harbor Freeway Transitway, with stops in downtown Los Angeles. The new Silver Line means that a quintet of other lines using the transitway and busway will be truncated — the 444, 446/447, 484 and 490. (We’ll have more soon about the Silver Line on The Source).

Another big change: a new line, the 902, is being added in the San Fernando Valley. The limited stop service will run between the North Hollywood subway station and Pacoima, via Burbank and Van Nuys boulevards.

The agency is calling these changes “service enhancements.” What do you think? Email your thoughts to thesource@metro.net. The full list of changes is after the jump.

New schedules start December 13, 2009

Your local Metro Service Sectors are enhancing service in your area. Starting December 13th, look for more efficient service on major streets, route extensions and adjustments, and additional service during peak hours, late night and weekends.
