Mariachi mania and other Gold Line opening day events

Music and food lover alert! Boundless overeating and listening opportunities await at the first ever Boyle Heights Block Party and 19th annual Mariachi Festival. The event will take place at the Mariachi station from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday during the community celebrations for the opening of the new Gold Line Eastside Extension.

Among the acts featured will be Jahnny Wallz, Domingo Siete, UmoVerde, Dirty Hens and Quito Sol. And there will be no shortage of food offerings on tap.

A similar theme prevails at East Los Angeles Civic Center Station, where there will be live Chicano rock music, a farmers’ market and a variety of food booths.

Rides on the Gold Line are free on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Click here for a rundown of other activities on Sunday associated with the grand opening of Metro’s newest rail line.
