Transit — streetcars, urban rail and buses — has a long history of selling advertising space to make a few extra dollars to help keep fares low. This Marilyn Monroe “Bus Stop” movie ad from 1954 included an iconic image of the actress on its rooftop, an unusual space even then and one that for security reasons is now reserved for bus identification purposes. Bus Stop didn’t collect an Oscar but the movie trailer — on INDB.com — is a 1950’s winner. The picture was taken on Spring Street in downtown Los Angeles — that’s L.A. City Hall in the background.
