LaBonge joins Metro Board for the day

A wrinkle in today’s Board meeting: Board member Jose Huizar is out of town, so Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa has appointed Los Angeles Councilman Tom LaBonge to be his temporary replacement, according to city officials.

The mayor has three appointees on the board and the advantage of having all of them here is that Villaraigosa and his appointees control a block of four votes. That could potentially be important on big votes — including the big one scheduled for today on adopting a long-range plan.

UPDATE: I should have mentioned in the initial post that LaBonge served on the Metro Board under L.A. Mayor James Hahn.
