Update, 7:24 p.m.: Normal service resumes on Blue & Expo Lines

UPDATE, 7:24: Normal service was restored about 20 minutes ago. There are residual delays. Thank you for your patience and patronage. We know this was a tough commute tonight.

UPDATE, 6:40 P.M.: Metro Blue Line and Metro Expo Line are experiencing major service delays in the downtown area of up to 75 minutes during rush hour. Equipment issues involving a routing switch continues at Washington and Flower junction and at the 23rd St. crossover on Expo Line. Two train breakdowns in the Washington area have compounded earlier delays caused by limited use of power that controls switches at Washington and Flower junction. Buses are being used in addition to trains to transport passengers; personnel are assisting. Delays to passengers in the downtown area may extend to 75 minutes. Some trains are being turned back at Washington Station and at 23rd Street Station in order to keep southbound service at a steady pace. Trains are arriving and departing at all stations. Service continues throughout the Blue Line and Expo Line with a 12-to-15-minute delay outside of the downtown area.

UPDATE, 6:18 P.M. Due to a problem with the switches at the junction of the Blue Line and Expo Line at Washington and Flower in downtown L.A. — in addition to two broken down trains — there are serious delays on both lines. Avoid them if you can — it doesn’t look like the issue is going to be cleared up very soon.

A bus bridge is being established.

Service advisories can always be found on the Metro.net homepage and Metro’s regular Twitter feed, as well as Metro’s service alert feed.

@metroLAelevator – New Twitter feed for elevator service alerts

You’ve requested it and we’re listening – Metro has added an additional Twitter feed for service updates addressing elevator service alerts. @metroLAelevator will be reserved for announcing elevator outages — and when they’re back in service. Along with @metroLAalerts, these two Twitter feeds are a great resource for customers with mobile devices or online access. In fact, here’s the first tweet:

Both Twitter feeds are maintained by Stephen Tu, Transportation Planner, in the Executive Office of Operations. You may recognize his initials at the end of most tweets: ^ST.

UPDATED: Metro will not run extra service for Daylight Saving

This Sunday is Daylight Saving, and clocks around Los Angeles will be turning back an hour at 2 a.m.

Those attending HARD Day of the Dead, don’t worry, Metro Rail service will continue running 30 – 40 minutes after the event regardless of the official time on the clock.

However, for Metro Rail, there will not be any bonus Daylight Saving service, so basically once you’ve turned back the clock, your best bet is to catch the last train before it turns 1:30 a.m. again.

Metro Bus, on the other hand, will operate a “bonus” hour of service during the time change if the regular service schedule shows service after 1:59 a.m.

Check schedules in advance and try not to forget to turn back your clocks. If you have questions, ask them here and we’ll work through this confusing time together!

Green Line service disruption between Crensaw and Avalon stations

Please see the notice below. The problem may continue until the Friday morning commute, meaning bus shuttles will replace the train between Avalon and Crenshaw. Before leaving home, please check the metro.net homepage or Metro's Twitter feed for any updates.

Here's the service alert with alternate routes:

Due to a power systems issue (the overhead wire system which feeds power into the trains), Green Line service has been suspended between Crenshaw/I-105 and Avalon stations until further notice.

As of 11pm Thursday, this disruption is expected to continue through Friday afternoon. Crews are currently troubleshooting. Customers are strongly advised to check the status of service before beginning their trip on Friday. Follow @metroLAalerts for the latest updates.

While train service has been suspended, bus shuttles have been implemented between Crenshaw/I-105 and Avalon stations, also making stops at Harbor Fwy and Vermont/Athens stations. However, please allow additional travel time due to anticipated crowding and delays.

For those seeking alternate routes for Friday morning, please consider the following when traveling to Downtown:

Aviation/LAX Station: Use LADOT Commuter Express 438 to 7th St/Metro Ctr.

Hawthorne/Lennox Station: Use Metro Rapid 740 to connect w/ Metro Expo Line at Expo/Crenshaw Station.

Crenshaw/I-105 Station: Use Metro Rapid 710 to connect w/ Metro Expo Line at Expo/Crenshaw Station.

Vermont/Athens Station: Use Metro Rapid 754 to connect w/ Metro Expo Line at Expo/Vermont Station.

Harbor Fwy Station: Use Metro Silver Line to 7th St/Metro Ctr.

Avalon Station: Use Lines 51, 52 or 352 to 7th St/Metro Ctr.

Willowbrook Station (Imperial/Wilmington): Use Metro Blue Line from 7th St/Metro Ctr.

Norwalk Station: Use Line 460 to 7th St/Metro Ctr.
