The 11th Annual L.A. Triathlon is carving through the city this Sunday and along with it comes street closures and bus detours.

The following Metro bus lines will be on detour starting at 3:30am until the streets are reopened late Sunday afternoon : 14, 16, 18, 20, 26, 28, 33, 37, 51, 52, 53, 55, 60, 62, 66, 70, 71, 76, 78, 79, 81, 96, 105, 200, 204, 206, 207, 210, 212, 217, 305, 439, 444, 445, 460, 485, 487, 534, 550, 603, 720, 733, 754, 757, 760, and the Silver Line.

If your Sunday travels involve one of these lines, take note of temporary signage near bus stops and account for up to 40 minutes of additional travel time. Also note that detours are subject to change.

If possible, Metro encourages patrons to use Metro Rail to avoid delays – all rail lines will be running on normal Sunday schedules with the exception of the Blue Line. Due to planned Expo Line construction the Blue Line will not be running between 7th Street/Metro Center Station and Washington Station.

The weekend Blue Line bus shuttles between these two stations will also be affected by the triathlon.

Passengers headed south from 7th Street Metro Center will need to take the Red/Purple Line to the Pershing Square Station where bus shuttles at 5th/Hill will bring passengers to the Blue Line Washington Station. There passengers can board the train to continue their journey.

Those Blue Line customers headed to downtown Los Angeles must disembark at Washington Station and take a bus shuttle to Pershing Square Station. There will be not stop at 7th Street/Metro Center due to street closures, but a stop at Olive/7th will be made for those who don’t need to transfer to the Red/Purple Lines.

Please note that roads will be closed off and blockaded completely, meaning no one can cross even if there is a break in the race. Patrons wishing to cross Grand Ave. and Olive St. in downtown Los Angeles should take the Red/Purple Line from Pershing Square Station to 7th Street/Metro Center Station.

Service alert: Gold Line back in working order

The Gold Line is back operating on both tracks with no delays.  Problem that required trains to single track at the Highland Park Station, causing 20 minute delays, is resolved.

What was happening: Gold Line trains were running every 20 minutes due to technical difficulties with an overhead catenary wire at the Avenue 60 crossing near Highland Park. Metro substituted  longer trains to provide additional capacity for the afternoon commute.  At the Highland Park Station, trains in both directions made use of the northbound tracks (labeled Pasadena-Sierra Madre Villa). Trains were holding at Southwest Museum Station and Mission Station to allow for trains in opposite directions to clear switches.

Service alert: Reduced speeds on Blue, Gold and Green lines due to extreme heat

Effective immediately, speed on the Blue, Gold and Green lines will be reduced to a maximum of 45mph until 8pm due to the extreme heat today

This is only precautionary measure to ensure the safety of patrons.

Speed reductions may result in a 5-10 minute delay.

A determination will be made by noon tomorrow as to whether a similar speed restriction will be warranted on Tuesday.

Metro apologizes for the inconvenience.
