Metro Bus and Rail detours for The Oscars this Sunday

It’s that time of year again. This Sunday, February 22, the 87th annual Academy Awards will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, which means a significant section of Hollywood Boulevard will be closed or the red carpet.

Staging for the event is already underway and four Metro Bus lines are now detouring off Hollywood Boulevard between Orange Drive and Highland Avenue. On Sunday, an additional three lines will be detoured and Metro Red Line trains will bypass Hollywood/Highland Station the entire day. Celeb-spotters can use the Hollywood/Vine Station as an alternate — exit the station and walk west down Hollywood Boulevard.

Red Line riders: Trains will be running through the end of service on Saturday night. The last southbound train to downtown Los Angeles will be at 2:17 a.m. Sunday and the last northbound train to North Hollywood will be at 2:33 a.m. At that point, Red Line service will end and not resume until Monday morning at its usual time.

The full Metro press release is below:

Metro Red Line service will operate on a regular, Sunday schedule but will bypass Hollywood/Highland Station on Sunday, February 22 for the entire service day due to the 87th annual Academy Awards show at the adjacent Dolby Theatre. There will be no public access to Hollywood/Highland Station. Customers are advised to use Hollywood/Vine Station as an alternative and walk or transfer to nearby bus service, most of which will be detoured via nearby Sunset Boulevard.

Metro Red Line trains will resume service to Hollywood/Highland Station with the start of regular, weekday service on Monday, Feb. 23.

Staging for The Oscars began on Sunday, Feb. 15. Because of this, Metro Bus lines 212/312, 217, 222 and 780 are detoured off Hollywood Boulevard, using Sunset Boulevard instead, through 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24, or until barricades are removed.

On the day of The Oscars, Sunday, Feb. 22, Metro Bus lines 156/656 and 222 will be detoured via Cahuenga Boulevard and terminate at Hollywood/Vine Station through 4 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 23, or until barricades are removed.  Metro Bus lines 212 and 217 will be detoured via Sunset Boulevard and also terminate at Hollywood/Vine Station to maintain direct transfers with the Metro Red Line.  After 2 p.m. on Sunday, Metro Bus lines 30 and 105 will be detoured via Doheny Drive, due to a post-Oscars event closing San Vicente Boulevard between Santa Monica Boulevard and Melrose Avenue.

Metro Bus customers should allow extra time when traveling in the Hollywood and West Hollywood areas due to heavier traffic and road closures on Sunday.

Specific routes of the detours are available on Metro’s special events Service Advisory page located at For real-time service alerts, visit the homepage or follow @metroLAalerts on Twitter.
