Concrete is poured for Expo Line Phase 2's Bundy Bridge

We had news yesterday of progress on bridges for the Gold Line Foothill Extension. And today comes this news release from the Expo Line Construction Authority:

EXPO PHASE 2 CONSTRUCTION CONTINUES ON TRACK WITH BUNDY BRIDGE CONCRETE POUR

Construction of the Expo Phase 2 project continues at a rapid pace with major progress on the Bundy Bridge. Expo’s contractor, Skanska-Rados Joint Venture (SRJV), poured more than 1,000 yards of concrete (equivalent to 100 truck loads) for the stems (sides) and soffit (bottom) of the bridge. The remaining work on the Bundy Bridge includes construction of the Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) walls and deck placement, followed by construction of the station, which is expected to begin in October. Removal of the falsework for the Bundy Bridge is anticipated to occur in November.

All seven bridges planned for the Phase 2 alignment are now under construction and the Bundy Bridge is the fifth to reach this important milestone. The bridge, which will be 399 feet long, 52 feet wide and 20 feet high, will span across Bundy Drive, just north of Exposition Boulevard, and will feature a center platform aerial station for light rail passengers.

“With this concrete pour, we are even closer to delivering this vital transit project and remain focused on completing construction in 2015,” said Exposition Construction Authority CEO Rick Thorpe.

Service on Phase 1 of the Expo Line began in Spring 2012. Construction on Phase 2 is expected to be complete in late 2015. The Expo Line will bring greater mobility to the region by connecting west Los Angeles to the region’s existing rail network. These communities are traditionally underserved by public transportation and among the most traffic-congested in the nation.

  1. The big problem is that the utility lines are still up here. These have to be moved soon or it will delay this station most likely.

  2. Does anyone know what quarter is projected for completion in 2015? Will any of the stops between Culver City and Santa Monica be opened before final completion of the entire stretch of the Metro?
