Metrolink adds Angels Express trains

This is great news for Angels fans and those who enjoy American League baseball: Metrolink is adding round-trip special service between Union Station in Los Angeles and Angel Stadium in Anaheim. And the price is certainly right: $7 for a round-trip ticket — a good deal unless you really like sitting in traffic on the 5 freeway and burning through $4 per gallon gasoline.

Metrolink already has a stop in the parking lot at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, so it’s always been easy to reach the stadium via transit. But in the past, a lack of evening trains after the game made getting home a problem. Now, a new special train will depart from the stadium for Union Station 30 minutes after the end of Angels games.

All of the details are on the above flyer from Metrolink — the second page with schedules and info about how to get train tickets is after the jump. The new service begins April 8 with the Angels home opener against the defending American League West champion Texas Rangers. Metro, by the way, is one of five county transit agencies in Southern California that funds Metrolink.

  1. Hooray! Great New. I don’t even like the Angels but would go see them just because the train is so cheap – the problem is getting from El Segundo to LAUS by 5:50!

  2. Lucky you!! Up here on the central coast i can’t get channel 13 and no radio. :-(

  3. This is great news, I wouldn’t mind checking out an Angels game in the very near future. Hard to believe this setup hasn’t existed before with the train station being located on the parking lot of the baseball stadium.

@Zoidberg: You could take the Green Line to Norwalk Station then grab the shuttle to the Norwalk/Santa Fe Springs MetroLink Station.

  4. Pretty sure the Home opener is against TORONTO and not Texas. Be there and welcome back Juan Rivera.

  5. This is great news. I was thinking that the OCTA should have the local service like this but, to take it all the way to Union Station could be good to increase attendance at the games. I would think about cutting the Orange and Santa Ana stations stops since they are close enough for a quick bus ride. Also, would like to see an express train from the inland empire on the Orange line for the games too.

  6. Great news! Could they please run the train all the way north to the Valley? Go Angels!

  7. Could you start the #6501 route in Oceanside?

It doesn’t make sense to have the #6500 train after the game go south all the way to Oceanside, if you can’t get on the train TO the game from there.

    Please?
