The Metrolink Board of Directors last month delayed making a decision on a controversial six percent fare increase and instead chose to look at other options to close the commuter rail line’s budget gap.
One of those options: service cuts, according to a report to the board available on the Metrolink website.
Among the cuts: All weekend service to Orange County would be suspended, 10 different trains on the Ventura County line would be discontinued on weekdays and both the San Bernardino and the Orange County-Inland Empire lines would lose a pair of trains each weekday.
Most of the cuts are aimed at trains that run on weekends, outside rush hour on weekdays or trains that travel in opposite direction of rush hour traffic on weekdays.
The cuts will be discussed at the Friday, Dec. 11, meeting of the Metrolink Board of Directors.
