From the dept. of good news: bus ops playing it safe

It’s a bit of a slow day here, and this post comes from the Dept. of It’s a Holiday Week.

Metro CEO Art Leahy emails a ‘daily briefing’ to staff with happenings from around the agency. One item from Monday’s briefing caught my eye:

Laker Girls Help Us Celebrate Key Safety Milestone

This past Friday, Operations at our Venice Division 6 celebrated reaching an important safety milestone — 365 days without lost time due to an on the job injury. This milestone was marked with an ice cream and cake celebration for everyone as well as a prize drawing. The Laker Girls helped the Division celebrate by assisting with the prize drawings as well as providing photographs and autographs to everyone….

Upon reaching the 200 day milestone, Division management wanted to increase the incentive to continue, they were able to secure the involvement of the Lakers as a part of their community service events. This not only fostered pride but created some healthy internal competition.

First, a hearty congrats to Division 6.

Second, I think it should be noted that one month after operations began, The Source has also not suffered a workplace injury — and we have to do stuff like reach under our desks to plug in laptops and cope with Outlook email. Nothing against the Laker Girls, but if you’d like to send the Los Angeles Kings Ice Crew for a visit, we can be found on the 19th floor.
